The Gift
2017
This performance uses the ancient Arabic art of shadow puppetry. A story inspired by true historical events, “The Gift” takes audiences on an enchanting journey back in time to Baghdad in the year 800. In his sumptuous palace, the Abbasid Caliph Harun Al-Rashid hosts emissaries sent by Emperor Charlemagne. As the foreign dignitaries prepare for their long journey back home, the Caliph offers an array of lavish gifts to be sent along, including an albino elephant, known as Abou Al-Abbas. Had the Caliph heard of the German proverb “small gifts preserve friendships”.
This performance is our youngest, it was premiered in Beirut and toured in the UK and UAE.
